The Fall Season is quickly arriving in La Quinta and with that comes turf overseeding for the resort and our golf courses. The overseeding process is utilized in desert regions to cover up the bermuda grass that is about to go dormant with perennial ryegrass which will stay green all winter long. The new winter grass creates ideal playing conditions on the golf courses and for families at the resort.
The whole process consists of mowing down the current Bermuda grass to low heights to create an ideal seed bed for the perennial ryegrass that will be planted over the top. We then start to water these areas throughout the day and restrict traffic on these areas to allow for the new seedlings to grow and develop. Once we are able to start mowing our first lines into the newly seeded turf the areas they will open back up for normal operation. This process will take anywhere from 15 to 20 days to completely happen.
